Language with Flowers is a project that enables participants to discover rich Islamic visual traditions through digital photography, calligraphy and screen-printing. By incorporating a simple flower design into the process each participant will design and print their own canvas “bag for life”.
Embracing the positive aspects of the changing multicultural community in Scotland this project provides an opportunity to explore photography, design and calligraphy with artists Leena Nammari and Jila Peacock. Devised by art consultant Elizabeth Guest, the project will challenge people’s perceptions of Islam in Scotland by exploring some of the visual traditions of Islam working with people from a range of cultural backgrounds.
Through a series of nine sessions participants will take pictures of flowers at the Royal Botanic Gardens, develop skills in digital photography, design, calligraphy and screen-printing at Stills production facilities.
