Samantha Clark

Samantha's recent work has taken the form of gallery-based installations which make use of ephemeral, fragile, unstable elements such as sound, vibrations, optical effects and air movements. Natural materials such as bird remains or insects, and man-made objects like wine glasses or maps, combine to comment on man’s tricky relationship with the natural world. In a recent installation work, enchanté, a swarm of dead winged ants were seen through the lenses of hundreds of water-filled wineglasses. They loomed large or vanished entirely according to your own movements. The humming of singing wineglasses resonated in the space, apparently trembling the surface of the water. Natural and artificial light created unexpected optical effects and attracted living insects into the gallery.
