Jules Rawlinson
Jules is a multimedia designer and composer working across artistic and commercial practices and has been tutoring at Stills since 2005. His sound workshops for Stills aim to enable artists to make high quality recordings that can be further shaped through computer based editing and post-production tools.
Jules graduated from Edinburgh University's MSc Sound Design programme in 2006 and is now working towards a PhD in live electronic and electroacoustic composition and performance with solo, duet and trio laptop appearances at boutique festivals Dialogues, Soundings, Spectrum, among others. His academic research interests include open form and adaptable interfaces while artistic influences include investigations of repetition, difference and singularity.
He has created sound designs and score for short films and multimedia installations including contributions to Suppose Life, a promenade performance held in Edinburgh's Botanic Garden in 2006, and was responsible for delivering a large scale binaural sound design project for whisky company Glenmorangie that will see worldwide commercial installation. Jules was a guest contributor to the Cybersonica AVLab held in Brighton in late 2008, and was invited to perform on the Future of Sound / Future of Light tour organised by Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 / Human League.
Jules has recently completed an interactive sound work commissioned by New Media Scotland and will create a multichannel sound installation to accompany an exhibition by visually impaired photographers in July 2009.
