Re:Create Artist in Residence- Caroline Douglas
Focusing on portraiture, Caroline Douglas uses photography as a repository of memory and personal experience. In the last few years her work has concentrated on the sociological aspects of identity construction and social relations using portraiture as a vehicle to explore the human condition. Caroline incorporates social agendas in her practice ‘in an attempt to subtly engage audiences and foster a platform where prejudgments can be challenged. To do this I avoid succumbing to stereotypes of passive victimisation and disengagement. Rather, I employ a methodological approach to my work that posits the centrality of human agency’. Following her interest and experience in working with people, Caroline is now developing Find a Place, a photography project that represents the changing nature of Scottish identity. Through the support of the Re:Create residency programme, Caroline intends to link up with Stills’ artistic community and inspire people to explore photography.
