Exhibition
Our annual programme of exhibitions includes three main gallery exhibitions accompanied by Stills’ Film Lounge and Cockburn Street Cinema.
Divided into four main strands, our exhibition programme explores Photography through documentary, film and social exchange and involves a three-year curatorial research-based project by Stills' Associate Curator, Kirsten Lloyd; a series of ‘Duet’ exhibitions curated by Lisa Le Feuvre that aims to commission an artist to make a new body of works in response to another artists’ works; and an annual intensive season of photography and film.
Stills' Film Lounge is a unique, permanent screening room installed in Stills’ resource space. Stills’ Programme Fellow, Debi Banerjee, initiated the project in June 2010 and continues to work with Stills’ Curators and the Directors of screen archives and collections throughout the UK and Europe to showcase a changing programmes of artists’ film. The screening room is designed to show moving image works in optimal conditions. Films are presented as a series of eight curated programmes to compliment Stills’ main exhibitions, commissions and residencies and events. The films aim to enhance audience engagement with historical and contemporary works by both local and International artists and filmmakers.
Stills' Cockburn Street Cinema is a unique, open-air artist film screening event, programmed as part of the Film Lounge in December. Recently curated by Stills’ Programme Fellow Debi Banerjee and Guest curator, Kim Knowles, Cockburn Street Cinema presents short experimental film works through an on-street intervention of films projected on to the gallery windows during the dark evenings of the festive period.
