Round Table Event: Photography & the City: FRIDAY 6 MARCH 2PM - 5PM FREE
This round table discussion will further explore the theme of photography and the city through three distinct perspectives. Alex Law (Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Abertay) will kick off with what promises to be a lively introduction to seminal thinkers who have influenced generations of artists: Walter Benjamin, Henri Lefebvre and Georg Simmel. Duncan Forbes (Curator of Photography at the National Galleries of Scotland) will follow with a local focus in his paper Edinburgh’s urbanity: the city in early photography. Finally, Francis McKee (writer and Director of CCA in Glasgow) will discuss the internet as an emerging space for photography, particularly focusing on websites which feature photographs of modern ruins including Chernobyl and Detroit.

The three presentations will be followed by an open discussion. All welcome, refreshments will be provided.
