The Mexican film festival in Edinburgh was born due to a large history of film in Mexico and a prominent success in the past years. The Mexican, along with the Latin American society from the University of Edinburgh conceived the idea for a film exhibition that would promote both, past and recent Mexican productions. A series of film screenings are taking place across the city between 17 - 20 July.

El Violín (The Violin) The first full-length feature film of director Francisco Vargas Quevedo addresses the continuous struggle between farmers and the military in Mexico in a terrible, ironic and moving story. 'El Violin’ travelled around the world through festivals and was eligible for countless awards, including the prize for Best Actor for Ángel Tavira in the 59th edition of Cannes Festival in 2006.
