Darkrooms

Situated beneath the gallery on the lower ground floor are our comprehensive darkrooms including Scotland's only open access dry-to-dry colour print processor. Despite advances in digital technologies, our traditional wet darkrooms remain as popular as ever. Whether you want to get to grips with the basics of this magical medium, experiment with new techniques or produce professional hand-made fibre based and c-type prints, Stills’ darkrooms can meet all of your needs.

Darkroom Facilities include

  • Black & white communal darkroom with 6 x LPL colour enlargers
  • Individual darkrooms with LPL large format colour enlargers
  • Black and white film processing room including tanks, reels and drying cabinet
  • Thermophot 505 dry-to-dry colour print processor (20” width intake)
  • Finishing area with dry mount press, guillotines, Logan bevelled matt cutter, cutting mats and scalpels
