Welcome to Stills new programme of popular courses and one-day workshops in photography and digital media. We offer subsidised, low-cost training in everything from Photoshop and Dreamweaver to Black & White photography so you can come to Stills to create your own website, print your own photographs, learn to use your digital camera and much more.
Stills’ tutors are highly trained professional specialists working in various fields of digital media and lens-based arts. Small classes mean that everyone gets individual attention and can enjoy a creative and informal hands-on learning environment. All materials are included in the course price so there are no hidden extras and course participants receive one free session voucher so that you can come back and use our darkrooms and digital labs on your own.
How to book onto a Stills Course:
It’s easy to book, just choose your course and pay in advance to confirm your place. We accept payment by cash, cheque and most credit and debit cards so you can even book over the phone, 0131 622 6200.
If you would like to pay by cheque simply send in a note with your name, address, contact telephone number and e-mail stating the course and dates you are interested in. Post this off to ‘Courses’ at the address on the right with a cheque for the full amount made payable to Stills Ltd. (Concessions are available to full time students and those on benefit.)

These Photoshop CS3 modules, aimed at photographers interested in advancing their knowledge of the latest Adobe Photoshop program, explore the possibilities of using the application as a digital darkroom. Starting with basic program orientation covering image adjustments, enhancements and different outputs, the middle modules cover intermediate level training in selections, masking and layering techniques. Experience the magic of darkroom colour c-type printing with this introductory course designed to take you one step beyond black and white. Learn colour theory, explore different Kelvin temperatures and their effects on various colour films, practice different white balancing techniques using CMYK filters, and produce the highest quality archival colour prints using the only colour print processor available to the public in Scotland! Experience in black and white darkroom printing is required.

Get the whole world to listen by creating your own podcast! A podcast is an audio (radio) programme that is available for download from the internet in MP3 format that can go straight on to your MP3 player. This is your chance to take part in a hands-on, expert-led workshop that will teach you all you need to know about this straightforward, cheap and fun process including recording and editing techniques, presentation techniques and how to get your podcast up on the internet.
