This practical and fun course has been extended to six weeks enabling participants to fully explore the essential camera and Photoshop skills you need to produce stunning digital photographs. Experienced tutor John Morrison helps you harness your creative potential in six engaging and empowering modules. Demystify the technical jargon and unlock your DSLR cameras full potential. Learn Photoshop from a photographer’s perspective and the essential skills you need to really make your images shine, on screen, on the web and print. If you don’t have a digital SLR we can provide one for you. Computer experience is required.

Digital SLR Photography

Week 1 & 2 Capture, technical notes, discussions, art context:
Explored light, time and harness the Digital SLR cameras' aperture and shutter speed settings for generating accurate exposures in the manual mode; Understand ISO, colour balance, and focus modes; How to read digital histograms and feel confident in common exposure scenarios, Explore lenses and depth of field and how to use them creatively, Look at Photographers and photography within an art context.

Assignment: You will be given a project to be done for the second week

Week 3 Image Management:
Common image formats; RAW, JPG, TIFF and PSD; Practice importing, organizing and filtering their digital images in Adobe Bridge, Explore Adobe Camera RAW, Discover the Photoshop interface and experimented with basic image enhancements.

Week 4 Postproduction in Photoshop:
Explored more deeply the Photoshop interface and image enhancements, using levels and curves; Discover the photo stitching capabilities in Photoshop to create stunning seamless panoramas; Utilised advanced strategies for converting colour in to stunning black and white photographs; Experiment with image enhancements using the cloning and healing tools.

Week 5 Output and archive:
Practiced moving, rotating, cropping and learn professional strategies for resizing digital photographs; Explored Photoshops' Save for Web interface, and learn how to create appropriately sized images for Flickr™

Week 6 Ready for print:

Understand strategies for optimising and saving their photographs for print, archive and the web; Experiment with getting the best results from Stills Epson 4800, large format archival photo printer and learnt how to prepare images for professional photo labs.
